Coat of arms of the Republic of Rome.

Symbolism:

-Corona Civica (a wreath of oak, originally a military decoration, it became the symbol of ruling power after the times of Caesar and Augustus and became the symbol of the power of the High Consule somtime during the 3rd century A.D.)

-she-wolf with gladius (the she-wolf is an ancient symbol of Rome. The Republic decided to adopt the armed she-wolf as it's symbol as a metaphor for the Republic's eternal endurance)

-lions in supporters (lions were regarded as majestic and powerful animals since the Stone Ages. In Europe, the lion is widley considered as the "king of the jungle", therefor Rome decided to use the lion in it's CoA to symbolize that they considere their country to be the most powerful and influential of them all)

-aquila (the aquila is an ancient smybol of the Roman military. Since the military has an importan part in Roman society, it's symbol can't be missing in it's CoA)

-SPQR (since Antiquity the motto and/or name of the Roman state)
